Boat Polishing & Oxidation Removal in Vancouver, WA
Machine or hand polishing that removes gelcoat oxidation and brings back gloss before sealing.
What boat polishing & oxidation removal actually involves
Gelcoat oxidizes when UV breaks down the top layer, leaving the surface chalky and dull. Polishing removes that dead layer and restores the original color and shine. This is the step to do before waxing or ceramic coating, because protection over oxidation just traps the chalkiness.
I start with a wash and decontamination, then polish the gelcoat by machine or by hand depending on the area and the vessel size. Heavy oxidation may take multiple stages; light chalking may come out in one pass.
After polishing, I recommend sealing or coating the surface so the oxidation does not return immediately. I can add that step on the same visit.
